Yale FES Urban Resources Initiative
The Urban Resources Initiative (URI) is a not-for-profit partnership between the Hixon Center of Urban Ecology at the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and a local board of directors. URI works with local New Haven community groups in three areas: Community Forestry, Environmental Education, and Training and Capacity Building with a view to replanting, restoring, and reclaiming the urban environment. Through their work, URI has established several maps of street trees, community greenspaces, urban tree canopy, and Yale employee milestone trees.
Yale Nature Walk
The Yale Nature Walk is an ongoing project developed in Professor Marta Wells’ course E&EB 223L: Evolution, Funtional Traits, and the Tree of Life in conjunction with Academic Technologists at the Center for Teaching and Learning. Students contributed to a collaborative map by adding information about trees on campus in a variety of forms, including basic facts, artworks, photographs, videos, etc. The growing list of trees can be found here.
