Reimagining the Garden
Tucked at the foot of Science Hill lies one of Yale’s hidden gems, Marsh Botanical Garden. Amidst development of the surrounding campus, the university has begun to re-envision what this eight-acre parcel of land could be—to Yale, to its neighbors, and to the greater New Haven community. A new master plan to revitalize the garden blends research and teaching facilities with an inspiring new public conservatory, all within beautifully restored gardens that honor the MBG’s historical legacy and create new opportunities for the future.
This master plan envisions the site’s renewal through a series of planned phases. The initial phase focuses on landscape and garden enhancements designed to enrich visitors’ experiences, support hands-on classes and research, and host a variety of events. For the public, the lush gardens will offer a welcoming space to explore plant diversity, experience gardens designed with ecological principles, and learn about Yale’s efforts to study, conserve, and preserve biodiversity. Throughout the renovation, MBG will remain home to Yale’s innovative plant science programs.
